La esencial banda inglesa, The Stranglers, protagonista y sobreviviente de la era punk con discazos como Rattus Norvegicus (1977), No More Heroes (1977) y Black and White (1978), anuncia para septiembre su álbum de estudio 19, Dark Matters
El primer single extraído fue «And If Should See Dave…» dedicado al teclista y cofundador Dave Greenfield, fallecido por Covid-19 en mayo de 2020. (Ver el gran vídeo dirigido por Vadim Lasca aquí).
Dark Matters representa el último trabajo grabado por Greenfield y también el primero sin el baterista y cofundador Jet Black, quien por razones de salud se retiró en 2015. Ha sido sustituido por Jim Macaulay.
Es el primer disco de The Stranglers desde Giants en 2012.
El bajista y co-vocalista Jean-Jacques Burnell es el único fundador que permanece al frente del grupo, mientras el guitarrista Baz Warne ha estado en la banda desde 2000, asumiendo también el rol de vocalista principal desde la salida de Paul Roberts en 2006
El interesante segundo single extraído del disco es «If Something’s Gonna Kill Me (It Might As Well Be Love)«, un tema antibelicista que aborda el drama familiar tras el hijo muerto en la guerra, viene acompañado por un estupendo vídeo dirigido por Daniel Oramas, dirección de arte de Taylor Wym, diseño de producción de Eliza Chance y las increíbles actuaciones de Penelope H. Grover, Alan Richmond y Jake Dorsey
